SPECIAL GUESTS, PRESENTATIONS     Our Keynote presentation will be delivered by an esteemed panel of past Dr. Stuart Farber Excellence in Hospice & Palliative Care Award recipients. “What the Pandemic Has Taught Me” will be shared and discussed with Anne Koepsell, retired Executive Director, WSHPCO, Ross Hays, MD, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Mimi Pattison, MD, FAAHPM, Virginia Mason Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care and Gregg VandeKieft, MD, MA, FAAFP, FAAHPM, Medical Director for Palliative Care, Providence Health System.

Leslie Emerick, MPA, this year’s Plenary Speaker, has 26 years of public policy experience. She has represented WSHPCO since 2007 as a lobbyist and now as the Director of Public Policy. She was a Douglas County Commissioner and a legislative liaison for the state Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health. She has a Master of Public Administration degree, a BA in Speech Communication and Secondary Education with a minor in Political Science. Leslie started her contract lobbying business in 2006 and currently represents multiple health care related associations.

FOR WSHPCO BOARD OF DIRECTORS     Also on Sunday, October 24 is WSHPCO’s Board of Directors meeting with dinner after. The board will meet from 2-5p with an informal dinner at 6. This meeting will take place at Campbell’s Resort in the Park Room located across the street from the resort.

This year we welcome virtually for a regulatory-focused concurrent session Jennifer Kennedy, EdD, MA, BSN, RN, CHC. Dr. Jennifer Kennedy is the Senior Director of Quality & Regulatory for the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and has been with the organization since 2006. Jennifer is the lead for the NHPCO hospice quality program and interacts with CMS and their contractors related to hospice regulatory and quality issues. She serves on multiple NQF committees, the Joint Commission’s Home Care Accreditation Advisory Council, the ANA’s national palliative nursing task group, and is the U.S. representative for the UK’s St. Christopher’s Hospice Celebrating Palliative Care Nursing in 2020 Project.

HOSPICE PROVIDERS’ FORUM     Please join Dr. Mimi Pattison for a Hospice Providers’ Forum followed by dinner on Sunday, October 24 at Campbell’s Resort! Dr. Pattison and WSHPCO invite Hospice Medical Directors, Hospice & Palliative Care Physicians and Nurse Practitioners for topical discussions and networking the day before the conference from 2-5p with dinner following. This event will take place at Campbell’s Resort in the East-West Room located upstairs in the conference center. Registration for this event can be found in the registration area below.

MULTIPLE SESSION TRACKS WITH 30+ CONCURRENT SESSIONS     The Chelan conference agenda is filled with content-rich clinical sessions, regulatory compliance information, leadership topics and other topics including pediatric palliative care, palliative care, psychosocial care, self care and spiritual care.

Conference participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Discuss challenges faced by palliative care and hospice programs around the state.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and share solutions.
  • Strengthen collaboration and networking among palliative care and hospice professionals and programs statewide.
  • Practice evidence-based, ethical, effective and efficient hospice and palliative care.
  • Enhance attendees’ abilities to identify internal biases, increase cultural competency and improve cross-cultural communication techniques.
  • Identify, discuss and share innovative approaches for psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care.

NURSING, SOCIAL WORK CE    A maximum of 11.5 Education Contact Hours approved by California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider CEP14488.

This program has been approved for a maximum of 11.5 CEUs by the Washington Chapter, National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors are eligible.  Provider number #1975-153.

We are not offering Physician CME this year.

HANDOUTS     In an effort to waste less, no session handouts are printed for attendees. Please download  session handouts from the WSHPCO website after 10/15/21. A link for conference attendees will be provided.
