Who makes a positive difference for hospice and palliative care in Washington and beyond?
January 2018 – Submission Deadline: August 3, 2018, 12 pm
Dr. Stu Farber was a palliative care pioneer who helped the field develop and later thrive in Washington. He was the force behind the establishment of clinical palliative care at the University of Washington Medical Center. Dr. Farber and his wife, Annalu Farber, created the Stuart J. Farber, MD and Annalu Farber Endowed Professorship in Palliative Care Education in the Department of Family Medicine at UW Medicine.
Dr. Farber was held in high esteem by colleagues across the state and by our members who considered him an inspirational leader. He served on the Washington State Hospice & Palliative Care Organization’s board of directors from 2003 – 2005. The Washington State Hospice & Palliative Care Organization’s Board of Directors is ever grateful for Dr. Farber and his work that changed the face of end-of-life care in our state.
In 2015 the WSHPCO Board created an annual award to honor Dr. Farber and his contributions and to continue to recognize excellence in hospice and palliative care in perpetuity. In October of 2015 the first Dr. Stuart Farber Excellence in Hospice & Palliative Care Award was presented to Dr. Farber’s family, to honor his legacy. In 2016, this prestigious award was presented to former WSHPCO Executive Director Anne Koepsell. In 2017, it was presented to Dr. Gregg VandeKieft.
The Washington State Hospice & Palliative Care Organization Board of Directors invites you to nominate an individual for this prestigious award. We hope you can join us for the presentation of the third annual Dr. Stuart Farber Excellence in Hospice & Palliative Care Award at the WSHPCO fall conference at Campbell’s Resort on Lake Chelan, October 28-30, 2018. We look forward to receiving your nomination; they may be completed using the form below or directed by email to WSHPCO Executive Director Barb Hansen, email@example.com.
